About this place

The Lord Cautivo of Ayabaca Festival is celebrated every October 12th in the Corrales district and is one of the most unique devotional expressions in the Tumbes calendar. The festival reflects the high cultural permeability and internal migration that exists between Tumbes and the highlands of the neighboring Piura region, where the venerated image of the Lord Cautivo comes from.

This theological transfer shows that spiritual borders are not limited to political demarcation: on the main day, devotees accompany the image in procession through the streets of the district amid prayers, music bands and colorful decorations, in a day of faith that brings together whole families and visitors from across the region.
