About this place

The carnival festivities come to an end to make way for the recollection of Holy Week, whose movable timing between March and April marks the end of the intense summer in Tumbes. During this liturgical stage, Andean and European syncretism is expressed through silent processions, vigil masses and an atmosphere of devotion throughout the region.

In strict compliance with the Catholic meat fasting, there is a preferential consumption of aquatic resources, which significantly boosts demand at the fishing terminals of Puerto Pizarro and Zorritos. The celebration thus combines the spiritual dimension with intense economic activity linked to fishing.
